Robin McKenna, LISW-CP

Robin McKenna, LISW-CP, stands as a distinguished figure in the field of Relational Life Therapy, having honed her expertise under the direct mentorship of the renowned Terry Real. As a pivotal member of the Relational Life Institute, she serves as a dedicated Training Facilitator, sharing her profound knowledge and insights with aspiring therapists nationwide.

With a practice that spans various formats, including two-day marital intensives, psychoeducational and experiential group workshops, as well as traditional therapy sessions lasting 50 to 100 minutes, Robin has established herself as a versatile and compassionate therapist. Her approach is grounded in a deep-seated passion for enhancing the capacity of the nervous system to foster love and nurture healthier relational dynamics.

Robin is adept at synthesizing complex concepts of interpersonal neurobiology into comprehensible segments, facilitating a seamless learning curve for her clients. She advocates for a transformative shift from the conventional patriarchal marital paradigm to a more inclusive and empowering relational model,  fostering a rich tapestry of emotional, intellectual, and spiritual intimacy. This innovative approach,  encapsulated in the phrase "into-me-you-see", encourages individuals to delve deeper into the realms of personal connections and self-awareness.

Learning Objectives: SCSCSW

1. Articulate the concept of "relational living" and detail its influence on the nervous system.
2. Introduce the theory of memory reconsolidation, encompassing the limbic system (adaptive
child) activation and prefrontal cortex (wise adult) response, which facilitates the formation of
new neural pathways.
3. Distinguish the four stages of change and demonstrate their application in guiding clients through
relational skill development.
4. Recognize the three fundamental skills essential for relationship building: 1) cultivating second
consciousness, 2) fostering moderate self-worth, and 3) establishing moderate boundaries, and
acquire strategies to coach clients in the practical application of these skills.
5. Introduce the "Relational Repair" process and practice its practical application.
6. Explain the dynamics of relationship cycles, emphasizing the significance of the disharmony
phase.
7. Acquire specific and actionable coaching techniques to support clients in enhancing their
relational practices.
8. Analyze video sessions of Robin McKenna and Terry Real as they employ techniques with
volunteers/clients.
9. Differentiate between Relational Life Therapy and traditional couples counseling, highlighting the
unique attributes of each.

Showcase your brand and support our work. Sponsor our conference and gain exposure with
attendees in SC and beyond. Valued sponsors also support SCSCSW’s continued efforts to
support South Carolina’s clinical community with educational and legislative directives, mental
health advocacy efforts in Washington DC, and the continued delivery of relevant evidence-
based training for social workers and other mental health providers in SC.

Funds raised during this conference enable us to offer continuing education and legislative directives for our community. Without them, we would not have the voice that we’ve had in past years in Washington DC to advocate for mental health care, nor would we be able to train social workers and other mental health professionals on the newest information regarding evidence-based practices and understanding our clients.  We welcome and appreciate all donations to the SCSCSW!
